I use third person when in multiplayer/co-op, for both on foot and in vehicles. I usually prefer 1st person on foot, although I've been playing mostly 3rd person. In craft, I prefer 3rd for the added situational awareness. Always first person. For me 3rd person in this game makes me nauseous.

The only zoom out option i know of is when you build something, on PC you push your build menu and then push C, 1 time and then you can zoom out with the W and S button. Then there is the zoom out function in the Photo menu, activate the photo menu and fly around !
