I had the same issue but I could resolve it with most of suggestions. My client is using Jira v9.4.6 and I am not a Jira expert. Steps to link "floating" stories to existing epic: Issue Search; Refine query in "navigator" Tools bulk change; select issues > edit > change epic link; select destination epic . next/confirm; That did the job for me!

While you can change the Epic title to something else it will not extend to Epic fields: Epic name, Epic link, Epic status. TBH, I think Atlassian should not allow changing the Epic title at all. How To Change An Epics Avatar. Open your Work page, click on “Settings” and click on “Issues”. 2. Under "Issue types", click the three dots and click on “Edit”. 3. Upload an avatar, or choose one available. 4. Click on “Update” to finalize your choice.
None of these features appear to be available in my JIRA. I found I am able to do this by using Bulk Change Tool, ->select the Issue I want edit, -> Edit the selected issue -> and select the Initiative in the Change Parent Link drop down field. I believe your admin can add the field "Parent Link" (type = Parent Link) to your Create / Edit
Update 27th September 2023: Hi all, this change will start rolling out this week. As a reminder, you might see different Epics being shown in the Epic Panel / Epic Drop Down, as we are now using the Epic Issue status category instead, and only those that are not marked as Done are listed.
